Pembroke Pines was originally part of the vast Florida Everglades, established in the mid nineteen-fifties, when commuters from Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and Miami began to arrive, craving a more rural lifestyle. These new residents began to buy up large parcels of swamp and farm land and build comfortable large estates. Most families had horses and today’s equestrian scene in Pembroke Pines owes its existence to these early days. New residents will find different types of housing available in what used to be pastures near the Everglades swamps. West Pines Boulevard has the huge Pembroke Lakes Mall, a major draw for surrounding communities. Schools are excellent and the Broward Community College campus provides a wide range of vocational training for graduates.
Families have plenty of outdoors to enjoy; the CB Smith Park covers over 300 acres and is a lovely place to visit, with ample picnic spots, walking trails, camp sites, and an extensive water park, with slides, and lots more.
